In early 2020, Ontario Health Toronto Region (OHTR) invested in immediate additional Long-Term Ventilation (LTV) bedded capacity
across Toronto. This capacity is shared across;
- UHN - West Park Healthcare Centre (LTV and THV Beds)
- TEHN - Michael Garron Hospital (LTV Beds)
- Toronto Grace Health Centre (LTV and RECOVER Beds)
To support ICU decanting and maximize system capacity, OHTR established a rapid centralized process for LTV bed management, along with a
single waitlist
managed by West Park Healthcare Centre. This waitlist is accessible to participating GTA ICUs through
RM&R (LTVHUB).
A few important points;
- There is only one centralized waitlist for all three LTV sites which is held by West Park Healthcare Centre and accessible by RM&R.
- A formal referral to West Park, Michael Garron or Toronto Grace is not required for a patient to be placed on the waitlist.
- Bed allocation is based on multiple factors, including bed availability, ICU capacity, and time on the waitlist. The receiving LTV sites
will contact referring teams when ready to assess the patient.
- Participating hospitals can generate individual reports to track referral status.
