Participation House Support Services (PHSS) is a provincial non-profit organization that provides medical
and complex care in the community. This is achieved through 24-hours residential supports, day program
supports, and overnight respite care. Specifically related to the VAI population, PHSS has eight funded and
dedicated LTV beds to support both invasive and non-invasively ventilated patients in the London region.
Their funding model is a mixed model with funds from Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Services, and
the PHSS Foundation. Their care model coordinated by its Operations Team that includes PHSS, London
area hospitals, outpatient LTV clinics, Ontario Health atHome, and ProResp™ Community Respiratory
Therapy. PHSS has a unique housing model for their 24 hrs Residential Support. A minimum of two
residents are required for a house. PHSS establishes extended leases for homes, renovates the house to
create an accessible space, and staffs the home with non-registered care staff trained in house by PHSS.
All residents have access to a specialized behaviour team, medical team including primary care physician,
and palliative care team. In addition, VAIs, continue to be followed by the Respiratory Clinic at London
Health Sciences Centre and ProResp™ provides the in home Respiratory Therapy services. The VAIs are
not cohorted by house, rather placed based on resident profile and geography. Residents of PHSS do not
pay out of pocket for room and board, however do pay for any social experiences and outings. PHSS has
been expanding this model of LTV care in the community, now with a house in Stratford, and looking to
partner with Providence Care Group in Kingston and Hôtel Dieu Grace Healthcare in Windsor to explore
opportunities for their model in those communities.
In addition to being part of the PHSS Operations Team, ProResp™ provides community based Respiratory
Therapy services across the West Region via Ontario Health atHome contracts in Erie St. Claire, South
West, and Waterloo Wellington.
ALSO is a nonprofit attendant-care organization serving Windsor and Essex County. The organization supports individuals with physical disabilities,
acquired brain injuries, vulnerable seniors, and people experiencing homelessness. Their team helps clients transition into safe & independent living
environments and offers a wide range of in-home services and day programs through the region.
ALSO has a long history of assisting clients who require both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support. Community-based professional services -
